Basalt is a bomb defusal map set in a small village somewhere in Iceland. Made in collaboration with Konstantin “RZL” Löffler and Oliver Håndlykken. I was the lead artist on the project, responsible for the art direction and most of the assets.
The goal of the map was to bring something visually different and exciting to Counter-Strike, whilst also maintaining tight and fun gameplay. Basalt's somewhat gloomy atmosphere contrasts with the bright colors of buildings, providing a subversion on the typical bright, desaturated, and sunny feel most commonly seen in Counter-Strike maps.
